Terms of Service

Sibyl is operated by [LEGAL ENTITY NAME] ("Sibyl", "we", "us"). These Terms are an agreement between you and us covering your use of the Sibyl website and service.

Sibyl is currently in public beta. It is under active development, features change, and some of what is described here will change with it. We will tell you when it does — see Changes to These Terms.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account or using Sibyl, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

If you are using Sibyl on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you are authorised to accept these Terms for that organisation, and "you" means both you and it.

2. Eligibility

You may use Sibyl if:

• You are at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live if that is higher.
• You can form a binding contract under the law that applies to you.
• You are not barred from using the service under any applicable law or sanctions programme.

Sibyl is not designed for children and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.

3. User Accounts

Every part of Sibyl that produces a forecast requires an account. There is no anonymous use.

Creating one. You can sign up with an email address and a password of at least 12 characters, or with Continue with Google. Either way you must confirm your email address before you can sign in for the first time.

Your responsibilities. Give accurate information, keep your password to yourself, and tell us promptly if you think someone else has access to your account. You are responsible for what happens under your account. Changing your password signs out every other session, which is the fastest thing you can do if you suspect it has been compromised.

What an account gets you. During the beta, accounts are free and subject to usage limits — currently a cap on how many forecast, revision, and intake requests you can make per minute. These limits protect the service and the cost of running it, and we may adjust them. There is nothing to buy today; if paid plans arrive we will publish separate terms for them before charging anyone.

Closing your account. You can ask us to delete your account and everything in it at any time by contacting us (see Contact). The service does not currently have a self-serve delete button for accounts or individual cases; we handle these requests by hand until it does.

4. Acceptable Use

Use Sibyl for its purpose: thinking through situations you are actually facing.

You agree not to:

• Submit content you have no right to submit, including confidential information belonging to someone else, or personal information about other people that you are not entitled to share.
• Use Sibyl to harass, stalk, profile, or make decisions about another person in ways that would harm them — for example, to build a case against an individual, or to forecast the private affairs of someone who has not consented.
• Attempt to circumvent rate limits, request size limits, authentication, or the boundaries that keep one account's cases separate from another's.
• Probe, scan, or attack the service or its infrastructure; access accounts, data, or systems that are not yours; or use automated means to create accounts or generate forecasts at scale.
• Attempt to extract the underlying prompts, models, or system instructions, or use Sibyl's outputs to train a competing model or service.
• Use Sibyl in any way that breaks the law, infringes someone's rights, or breaches the terms of the providers we depend on (see Third-Party Services).
• Resell, sublicense, or provide Sibyl to third parties as if it were your own service.

We also ask you not to use Sibyl for crisis situations. It is a reflective tool, not a safety net. If you or someone else is in danger, contact your local emergency services or a crisis line.

5. User Content

What you submit. Your content is the material you put into Sibyl: the description of your situation, your answers to the questions Sibyl asks, the boxes you tick, the updates you add as things develop, and the outcomes you record against predictions.

You own it. Submitting content to Sibyl does not transfer ownership. It stays yours.

What you allow us to do with it. You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, copy, transmit, and process your content only as needed to operate the service for you. In practice, that means:

• Storing your cases so you can come back to them.
• Sending the relevant text to our AI provider so a forecast or revision can be generated.
• Backing up, securing, and restoring the database your cases live in.
• Debugging and maintaining the service.

This licence exists so we can run Sibyl. It ends when your content is deleted, except for copies held in routine backups until they age out.

What we do not do with it. We do not sell your content, publish it, share it with other users, or use it to advertise to you. We do not use your cases to train AI models, and our AI provider is engaged on terms that do not permit training on the content we send.

Content between users. Sibyl has no sharing, publishing, or collaboration features today. A case is visible only to the account that created it, enforced at the database level. If we add sharing later, it will be something you turn on deliberately.

Accuracy is yours. Sibyl reasons from what you tell it. An incomplete or inaccurate account of a situation produces a forecast about a situation that does not exist. We do not verify what you submit.

6. AI-Generated Forecasts

This is the most important section in these Terms. Please read it.

Forecasts are generated by AI. When you describe a situation, Sibyl sends that text — along with your answers, your checks, and any updates you later add — to a large language model, which produces the reading, the competing explanations, and the predictions you see. No human reviews a forecast before it reaches you.

Forecasts are probabilistic, and they may be wrong. Every prediction carries a percentage. That number is Sibyl's estimate of how likely an event is under the explanations it currently favours — it is arithmetic over the model's judgements, and those judgements can be mistaken, incomplete, or based on a misreading of what you wrote. A prediction at 80% is not a promise, and one at 20% is not a dismissal. Sibyl may miss the explanation that turns out to be true; it deliberately reserves part of its confidence for an account it did not think of, which is an acknowledgement that its list of explanations is never guaranteed to be complete.

Sibyl does not predict the future with certainty, and does not claim to. It offers a structured reading of an unfolding situation and a set of things worth watching. Whether a Sibyl 60% happens 60% of the time is not something we have measured, and we make no representation about the calibration or accuracy of any forecast.

What forecasts are for. They are provided for informational, reflective, and decision-support purposes only — to help you think about a situation more clearly, notice what you might be missing, and identify what would tell you which way things are going. They are not instructions, recommendations, or conclusions.

Forecasts are not professional advice. Nothing Sibyl produces is legal, medical, mental health, financial, investment, tax, employment, safety, or other professional advice, and no relationship of professional confidence or duty is created by using it. Sibyl is not a licensed professional in any field and does not know your full circumstances.

Consult qualified professionals. Where a situation involves your health, safety, legal position, money, or wellbeing, get advice from someone qualified to give it. A forecast is not a substitute for that conversation, and should not delay it.

You remain solely responsible for your decisions. Any action you take or do not take after reading a forecast is your decision and your responsibility. Do not rely on a Sibyl forecast as the basis for a consequential choice.

How forecasts change over time. When you add an update, Sibyl re-reads the case: it re-weights its explanations and revisits each prediction, which may move a probability, sharpen wording, retire a prediction, or propose that one has been settled. A revision is a fresh judgement by the same fallible process. Sibyl never records an outcome itself — it may propose that a prediction looks settled, but only you can confirm it. What ends up in your case's record of what happened is what you put there.

7. Intellectual Property

Ours. Sibyl — the software, the interface, the prompts, the design, the name and logo, and the methodology behind how forecasts are constructed — belongs to us and our licensors. These Terms grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable right to use the service. Nothing else is granted, by implication or otherwise.

Yours. Your content remains yours, as described in User Content.

Forecast outputs. As between you and us, you may use the forecasts generated from your own cases for any lawful purpose, including commercially. We claim no ownership of them. Two things to keep in mind: AI-generated material may not be protectable by copyright in your jurisdiction, and similar inputs may produce similar outputs for other users, so we cannot promise any output is unique to you. The prompts and methods that produced the output stay ours.

Feedback. If you send us suggestions or bug reports, we may use them without obligation or payment. You are not required to send us anything.

8. Third-Party Services

Sibyl is built on services operated by other companies. Running the service means your data passes through them:

We choose these providers for their security and privacy practices and engage them under terms that limit what they may do with your data. We do not control them, and their own terms and privacy policies apply to their services. We may change providers as the service evolves; where a change materially affects how your data is handled, we will update these Terms and our Privacy Policy.

Sibyl also uses PostHog for product analytics, and only for people who have accepted analytics cookies. It records which features are used — never the text of your cases — and declining leaves the service fully functional. You can change that choice at any time from Cookie Preferences in the footer. The Privacy Policy is where the current list of processors is maintained, along with the complete list of what analytics records.

9. Privacy

Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why, how long we keep it, and what rights you have over it. It forms part of these Terms.

The short version of the design: your cases are stored under your account and are readable only by it; error monitoring is configured with an allowlist so that your content cannot travel to it; and the text of your cases goes to our AI provider for one reason — to generate the forecast you asked for.

10. Service Availability

Sibyl is provided as-is and as-available. We do not offer an uptime guarantee.

Because this is a beta: we may change, add, or remove features; interrupt the service for maintenance; impose or adjust usage limits; and occasionally get things wrong. Forecast generation depends on an external AI provider, so an outage or rate limit at their end can make forecasts temporarily unavailable even when the rest of Sibyl is working.

We aim to preserve your cases and take reasonable care to do so, but you should not treat Sibyl as the only record of anything you would be sorry to lose.

We may discontinue Sibyl entirely. If we do, we will give you reasonable notice and a way to export your cases before access ends.

11. Account Suspension or Termination

By you. Stop using Sibyl at any time, and contact us if you want your account and its contents deleted.

By us. We may suspend or terminate an account that breaches these Terms — particularly Acceptable Use — that is being used in a way that threatens the service or other users, that generates costs disproportionate to normal use, or where we are required to act by law.

Where circumstances allow, we will warn you first and give you a chance to put things right, and suspension is our preferred first step over termination. Where the abuse is serious or ongoing, we may act immediately.

If we terminate your account, we will make your case content available to you for a reasonable period unless the law or the nature of the breach prevents it. If you believe an action was a mistake, contact us — we will look at it again.

Sections that by their nature should survive the end of this agreement do so, including User Content (as to licences already granted for existing backups), Intellectual Property, Disclaimers, Limitation of Liability, Indemnification, and Governing Law.

12. Disclaimers

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Sibyl is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory — including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement.

We specifically make no warranty that:

• Any forecast, probability, explanation, or prediction is accurate, complete, reliable, or well-calibrated.
• The service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free.
• Any defect will be corrected, or that results obtained from using Sibyl will meet your expectations.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties. Where that is the case, the exclusions above apply only to the extent permitted, and you may have rights that these Terms cannot limit.

13. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law:

No liability for decisions made in reliance on a forecast. We are not liable for any loss or harm arising from a decision you made, or did not make, on the basis of anything Sibyl produced. This is the central allocation of risk in this agreement, and it follows directly from AI-Generated Forecasts: you are the one who decides.

No indirect damages. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost opportunities, lost data, or damage to reputation or relationships, however caused and on any theory of liability.

A cap on everything else. Our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to Sibyl will not exceed the greater of (a) the total amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose, or (b) [CURRENCY] 100. During the beta, Sibyl is free, so in most cases this cap is [CURRENCY] 100.

What is not excluded. Nothing in these Terms limits liability for fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or anything else that cannot be limited under the law that applies to you. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

These limits apply even if we have been advised of the possibility of the loss, and even if a remedy fails of its essential purpose.

14. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless [LEGAL ENTITY NAME], its officers, employees, and contractors from any claim, demand, loss, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of:

• Content you submit to Sibyl, including any claim that it infringes someone's rights or contains personal information you had no right to share.
• Your use of Sibyl in breach of these Terms or of any applicable law.
• Any decision, action, or omission by you following a forecast, and its consequences for you or anyone else.

We will notify you of any claim we seek indemnity for and give you a reasonable opportunity to take part in its defence. You will not settle a claim in a way that imposes an obligation on us without our written consent.

15. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of [JURISDICTION], without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or to Sibyl will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of [JURISDICTION].

If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory consumer-protection rules in the country where you live, or of the right to bring proceedings in your local courts where the law gives you that right.

Before starting formal proceedings, we ask that you contact us so we can try to resolve the matter directly.

16. Changes to These Terms

Sibyl is under active development, and these Terms will change as it does.

When we make a change, we update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For changes that materially affect your rights — how your content is used, what you are liable for, or how disputes are handled — we will give you reasonable advance notice by email or in the application before the change takes effect.

Continuing to use Sibyl after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms. If you do not accept them, stop using the service and contact us to have your account closed.

We keep previous versions of these Terms and will provide one on request.

17. General

Entire agreement. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the whole agreement between you and us about Sibyl, and replace any earlier understanding.

Severability. If a provision is found unenforceable, it is modified to the minimum extent needed to make it enforceable, or removed. The rest stays in force.

No waiver. If we do not enforce a provision, that is not a waiver of our right to enforce it later.

Assignment. You may not transfer your rights under these Terms without our consent. We may transfer ours to a successor in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, on notice to you.

No third-party beneficiaries. These Terms create rights only between you and us.
